C-Fury Ltd www.c-fury.com
The C-Fury is designed to excel in multiple water conditions so owners can go out even when conditions are not ideal and explore. Designed as a system with purpose configured trailer and fitted road covers, there are C-Fury owners who regularly tow round the UK and to the South of France and back. Shallow launch and easy to recover on the roller bunks, getting to the water’s edge, launching and recovering with ease is also a specific design goal.
C-Fury Design – Demonstration Case Study Work
Based from their development centre in Ross on Wye, C-Fury asked 80/20 Engineering to help provide a deeper understanding of the Hydrodynamic behaviour of their Patrol boat using the Simerics-MP (CFD) software package could bring. A main aim of their ongoing development work is to optimize the performance of the new Hull design with specific attention to the Hydrofoil.
‘A key objective for C-Fury was to ascertain if there was enough dynamic lift to get on the plane – this was in doubt beforehand as weight of the craft had ballooned. From having the analyses done confidence was gained to push forwards and it also helped our client to understand that we were on the right track – so it was a great sanity check to keep pushing forward’ Simon McLoughlin, Managing Director, C-Fury Ltd
CFD results (Pressure patterns – Free Surface) Example design iteration virtually tested as engine power is increased – Using Simerics-MP
As a technical note in the CFD results, when looking underneath the boat you can see the water level at 15 knots is very close to the pump inlet, just after the ramp up into the pump, highlighting possible scavenging issues through air entrainment.
Within the lake trial video, you hear the engine note suddenly surge a couple of times as the hull attitude was starting to flatten off. As C-Fury had seen the CFD simulation results beforehand they were not concerned as they had the know how to easily control this with side guides: https://youtu.be/2EEMPAR0pN4
UpFront Engineering Simulation is a specialist Fluid Flow Simulation and Thermal Analysis Consultancy Company. We have a long track record of helping companies implement ‘Design Friendly’ or ‘UpFront CFD’ user environments that we believe will play an ever-increasing role within the product development process. However, often the client project demands are such that there is an urgent need for a design to be improved or a problem resolved. In these situations, we have a team of experienced simulation engineers to call upon.
